Brief Interviews with Hideous Men
„How odd I can have all this inside me and to you it’s just words.“
The book of short stories of the admired American novelist David Foster Wallace is flooded with hideous men and women, people suffering with anxiety, insecurity, and loneliness. This adaptation is a Czech premiere of the work by the “Cobainesque James Joyce of the nineties”, one of the most distinctive voices of American literature of recent years. The directorial tandem – Kristýna Jankovcová and Adam Svozil – reveals the unsuspected inner worlds of a group therapy participants. And what awaits them at the end of their highly entertaining, yet distressing spiritual journey? Perhaps a cured inner child? Or the “L” word (used without irony for a change).
