Petr Štědroň

Managing Director of Divadlo Na zábradlí since 2013.

He graduated in German and Art History from the Faculty of Arts at Masaryk University in Brno. During his master’s studies, he attended courses at the Universities of Regensburg, Leipzig and Vienna, during his internal doctoral studies in German Studies he was the recipient of a prestigious Robert Bosch Foundation scholarship, and his doctoral thesis on the topic of George Tabori and Holocaust Dramatics was written primarily at the University of Regensburg.

He received the Rector’s Prize of Masaryk University for outstanding achievements in doctoral studies (2004). For several years he worked as an external teacher at the Faculty of Philosophy at Masaryk University and the Janáček Academy of Performing Arts. Since 2009 he has been the head dramaturg of the Prague German Language Theatre Festival, and in 2021 he became its director. In 2004-2007 he was the dramaturg of the Mahen Theatre and in 2007-2013 he was the artistic director of the Reduta Theatre in Brno. In September 2013, he became the director of Prague’s Divadlo Na zábradlí.

A translator from German since his studies, he has translated dozens of dramatic texts by G. Tabori, D. Loher, R. Schimmelpfennig, P. Handke, R. W. Fassbinder, B. Strauss, P. Turrini, M. von Mayenburg, W. Lotz or A. Petras and a range of contemporary prose by J. Hermann, K. Lange-Müller, G. Tabori, M. Pollack, W. Genazin and so on.
