David Jařab
Czech theatre and film director, screenwriter and set designer. After graduating from the Janáček Academy of Performing Arts in Brno, he worked at HaDivadlo in Brno until 1997, and between 2002 and 2012 he was the artistic director of Divadlo Komedie in Prague. Since 2012 he has been working as a freelance director on Czech and Slovak stages. He has created more than sixty productions, most of which he adapted or wrote the text and prepared the set. From 2018 to 2022 he was the main director of Divadlo Na zábradlí. He also teaches at the Film Academy of Performing Arts in Prague.
With Divadlo Na zábradlí, he won the 2017 Theatre Critics Award in the category of Production of the Year for Macbeth – Too Much Blood.
His first feature film Vaterland – A Hunting Logbook premiered in 2004, followed by Head Hands Heart in 2010 and Snake Gas in 2023. In 2018, the feature-length documentary Vratislav Effenberger or Black Shark Hunting premiered. As a dramaturg and director, he has also collaborated with Czech Television (the documentary series Czech Photography).
