Inside a Banana
Music, like any other field, has its famous, popular and iconic representatives. But like every other field, it has the others: the forgotten, the weird, the bankrupt. Pavel Klusák’s book captures micro-stories from recent musical history, short encyclopedic entries dedicated to these unique fates of musicians who did not experience popularity, did not make the charts or approach music conventionally: three sisters whose father forced them to start a band and perform, even though none of them could sing, keep a beat or play an instrument properly. Singer Lucia Pamela, who sang and recorded a record on the Moon before Armstrong went there. The mesmerizing Tiny Tim, white-faced, plaid-jacketed, ukulele-wielding, who never stopped playing despite doctors’ warnings.
Inside a Banana captures the enchanting world of weirdos whose stories are both entertaining and moving. The production by Jan Mikulášek pays tribute to these fellows who walked untrodden paths and took a playful and unconventional approach to music and life.
